Searching for a walk-in shower conversion?

You may not need to rip your bath out at all.

A full walk-in shower conversion means ripping out your bath, re-tiling and re-plumbing, often £4,000–£10,000 or more, with your bathroom out of action for days. A watertight door fitted into the bath you already own gives you the same low, step-in access, in one day, from £990.

A UDOOR® watertight door fitted into an existing bath, the walk-in shower conversion alternative

UDOOR® is not a walk-in shower — and that's usually fine

To be clear from the start: this is not a walk-in shower. A walk-in shower conversion replaces your bath with a new shower enclosure or wet room, built from scratch. UDOOR keeps the bath you already have and fits a watertight door into its side, so you get a low, step-through opening without losing the tub underneath it.

For most people asking about walk-in showers, what they actually want is simpler: no rim to climb over, and a safe way in and out. That is exactly what the door gives you, for a fraction of the cost and disruption of a full conversion, and without deciding in advance to give up bathing.

A watertight door vs. a full shower conversion

Both get rid of the high side of the bath. They differ in what happens to your bathroom, how long it takes, and what it costs.

Why keeping the bath matters

A full shower conversion is a real building job: the bath comes out, the floor and walls are re-tiled, and the plumbing is re-routed to a new shower tray. That is days of dust and disruption in the one room in the house you cannot easily do without.

Cutting a watertight door into the bath you already own solves the same rim problem without any of that. Nothing else in the room is touched, and if you or a future buyer ever wants to bathe again, the option is still there.

What customers say

“The 'fitter', Csaba, worked solidly for 6 hours and left my bathroom and surrounding area spotless. The finished product is extremely neat and looks really good. If you're having difficulty getting in and out of the bath, installing a UDOOR is such a good and more economical alternative to having the whole bath replaced.” Julie · Trustpilot, December 2023 “The cost of conversion by the major mobility companies would have taken all my savings. also, I live in rented property. UDOOR offered an affordable solution. The engineer's free assessment visit answered all my questions and those of my landlord. The installation took four hours and Csaba was efficient, thorough and friendly. I can now use my bath and shower safely again.” Sylvie L. · Trustpilot, May 2023 Read all the reviews →

Your questions, answered plainly

Is UDOOR® a walk-in shower?

No. A walk-in shower is a full conversion that replaces your bath with a new shower enclosure or wet room. UDOOR fits a watertight door into the bath you already own, so you get the same low, step-in access without losing the bath underneath it.

When would a full shower conversion still make more sense?

If your bath is already damaged beyond repair, or you specifically want a large, threshold-free wet room, a full conversion may suit you better. For most people whose only problem is the height of the bath rim, a door fitted into the bath you already own solves it for a fraction of the cost and disruption.

Is the door really watertight?

Yes. It opens inwards, so the weight of the water presses it shut, and the seal is tested by TÜV SÜD through 20,000 opening and closing cycles. It carries a 10-year written warranty.

Will it work with my bath?

In 99% of cases, yes: cast iron, steel or acrylic, straight, corner, P- and L-shaped. The free survey confirms it with no obligation, and we say so honestly if it will not.

How disruptive is the fitting?

One engineer, one day, industrial dust extraction, and the bathroom cleaned before handover. No tiles come off and no plumbing is moved.

What's the difference between the two price options?

The £1,490 watertight door keeps full bathing and showering. The £990 bathtub frame gives you the same low step-in for showering only, with an open top rather than a sealed door.
