Talking to a parent about the bath | UDOOR®
udoor. 020 8089 0880 Ask for a callback

Most of our calls come from a son or a daughter.

Not from the person who will use the bath. That tells you something about how these conversations start, and about how carefully they need to be handled.

Raising it without taking over

The bath is rarely the real subject. What sits underneath it is independence, and the fear that accepting one adaptation is the first step to accepting all of them. That is why a bathroom full of hospital-looking equipment gets refused so often.

A door in the existing bath is unusually easy to say yes to, because almost nothing changes. Same bath, same tiles, same room. The difference is a low step instead of a climb, and it can be described as a small practical fix rather than a concession.

WHAT TENDS TO WORK Start from what they keep. “You'd keep your bath, they just make the side lower.” Nothing about age, nothing about decline. Show, don't argue. A sixty-second video of the door opening does more than any brochure. Watch it together. Leave the decision with them. A free survey with no obligation is easy to accept, because saying yes to a visit is not saying yes to the work.
WHAT TENDS TO BACKFIRE Leading with the fall. Fear makes people defend the status quo. The near-miss is your reason, it does not have to be your argument. Presenting it as decided. Booking first and telling them after usually ends with a cancelled survey. The catalogue of equipment. Rails, lifts, boards and alarms in one conversation says “you are old now”. One small change at a time.

How it works when you arrange it from a distance

You can run the whole thing from another town. Say who we should call at each step, and we keep you both in the loop.

1

You send the request

With your own number. Tick “for someone else” and nobody rings your parent unannounced.

2

The call

We can call you, or them, or both. Say which when you request the quote.

3

The survey

We measure and confirm the bath is suitable before anyone commits to anything.

4

The day itself

One engineer, one visit, roughly six hours. Plenty of customers have a family member on the phone during the handover instead of in the room.

5

You pay after

From anywhere, once the work is finished, by card or Klarna. The 10-year warranty stays with the bath, not with whoever paid.

A word on the money

Fitted from £990 for the bathtub frame version, from £1,490 for the full watertight door, and you pay only after the work is done. Full bathroom conversions by the larger mobility companies run into many times that, which is the comparison most families are actually making when they call us.

If the person you are arranging this for is chronically sick or disabled, the work may qualify for 0% VAT relief. We will tell you whether it does before you decide, not after.

Families who have been here

“The 'fitter', Csaba, worked solidly for 6 hours and left my bathroom and surrounding area spotless. The finished product is extremely neat and looks really good. If you're having difficulty getting in and out of the bath, installing a UDOOR is such a good and more economical alternative to having the whole bath replaced.” Julie · Trustpilot, December 2023 “Additionally we have been relieved not to have had the expense or disruption of having a new bath fitted with a door built in. The whole process of using the existing bath is very impressive.” Frank · Trustpilot, May 2026 Read all the reviews →

Questions families ask us

Can I arrange and pay for it without being there?

Yes. Book with your own number, tell us who to call at each step, and pay from anywhere after the work is done, by card or Klarna.

What if they say no to the survey?

Then nothing happens, and nobody chases them. The survey is free and carries no obligation, which is exactly why it is usually easy to say yes to.

Will their bathroom be torn up?

No. The door is fitted into the existing bath in one day. Same bath, same tiles, same room, and the bathroom is cleaned before handover.

Is there help with the cost?

If the person using the bath is chronically sick or disabled, the work may qualify for 0% VAT relief. We confirm it before you decide.

Arranging it for someone else?

Three details and we call you back within one working day, on your number, not theirs. Nothing is charged, nothing is booked, and nobody rings your parent unannounced.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT 1We call you back within one working day and talk it through. 2A free survey confirms the bath is suitable. No obligation. 3Fitting day, one engineer, roughly six hours, and you pay after.
